How to Do Jo Tori | Aikido Lessons

The application of Aiki in the Jo taking techniques demonstrated in the video is analysed below.

Analysis

At a time of 1.25 Uke attacks with tuski. Tori side steps and makes contact with Uke's hand/Jo. Tori induces Uke to apply Aiki by Tori slightly lowering his body/weight to apply downward pressure on the Jo causing Uke to pull upwards on the Jo. The action of Uke pulling upwards induces him to reverse the muscle torque about his front foot joint causing Uke to become unbalanced to the front by his forward momentum. Aiki-Feint

The application of Aiki in the Jo taking technique demonstrated in the video is analysed below.

Analysis

At a time of 1.10 Uke attacks with tuski. Tori steps forward and induces Uke to apply Aiki by applying an atemi to Uke's face, causing Uke to reverse the muscle torque about her ankle joint of her front foot to minimise the impact of the atemi by straightening the body. Consequently, Uke becomes unbalanced to the front due to her forward momentum. Aiki-Feint
